Knowing that it's a rare instance and that the signs will be almost immediately apparent helps me relax about it a bit. Definitely glad to be aware of this and know what to watch out for though. It also helped me stop panicking enough from the thought of the whole situation to stop and think about how many times myself and everyone I've ever known has swallowed or inhaled a pretty significant amount of water probably several times while horsing around in the pool, lake, and ocean and also diving into cold water (as most of us were told it was easiest to handle the cold water by doing it all at once) and not had anything like this happen to us as a result. To end a long comment (lol) this was very helpful. This article makes me feel a little better Thank youAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02000515555971447626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5923231085926288168.post-13051177281102252202008-08-06T21:51:00.000-07:002008-08-06T21:51:00.000-07:00I also am thankful for this activle, one of the on...I also am thankful for this activle, one of the only balanced article out there about this sad accident. I life guarded and taught lessons all thru college. I know have an inground pool, 4 kids and constant activity and friends over to swim. My 2 1/2 year old is also learning to swim. He wanted to learn, I haven't really pushed the idea. I would rather them have a little fear than none at all. I have a friend with a 3 year old who is always worried about something and is freaked out everytime her little one swallows even the littlest amount of water and coughs. I understand there are dangers but how many millions have gotten a little water and coughed and survived. Most everyone who has ever had a bath or played in the pool. Hopefully your blog will calm the hearts of many. I saw and read the report on this and although in my heart I felt that if we pay attention to our children things like this are less likely to occur, it still raised the question of what if? What if I did everything and it still happened. I taught my daughter how to swim when she was 2 1/2. So you can only imagine the fear (someone who isn't necessarily qualified to teach swim lessons) that goes through someone's mind when they think of someone so tiny being in that kind of danger.

You're right about parental instinct. Second guessing it isn't a good idea, even if it isn't always right on the money.

Thanks again for relieving some of my fears.Miranda Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10801079943798224800noreply@blogger.com
